&lt;p&gt;I have so far not had any problems with git on osx, but time will tell. I am using it on a small personal project right now for educational purposes.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;AFAIK the only other distributed version control system that interacts with SVN is bzr, and while its performance is not as good as hg, it is significantly improved.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I have had no end of trouble with the reliability of git on osx, particularly git-svn, whereas bzr has been a pleasure to use.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;All in all I am glad to see DVCS taking off, I hope there is room for us all.&lt;/p&gt;
